I made these plans with a "free trial" version of some home design software. Because of that, there's some quirks where I had to "make" it do what I wanted to get the 3d visual rendering to look right. For example, on the upper floor, there are "walls" around the open Great Room area. I had to put in "walls" then set their visual style to "glass" so that I could cut out the floor, and get them to render in 3d the way I wanted. (See 3D renderings, and hopefully this makes sense).
This is my first run at a post-class floorplan, so it will most certainly change a lot between now and when we build. Oh, another thing. The property we are looking at most closely now is on a 100-year flood plain, and the whole thing will have to be elevated. That's why we just went ahead and put a full "basement" of concrete under the house, even though it will be above grade. None of the systems (furnace, water heater, etc.) will be in the basement. They will be in the laundry room. Therefore the foundation "first floor" doesn't count as the "first floor" because it will ONLY be used for vehicle parking and storage.
The big rectangle in the lower right is for a huge masonry heater we hope we can afford, lol. Here's a gallery of what we might want to have
